Breakfast At The Sky Garden

I’ve been meaning to post this for ages and ages now. Ollie and I literally went for breakfast at the Sky Garden in September and it’s now almost October. I’ve just had other, more urgent, things to post, and this one is quite photo heavy so I’m using it more as a filler post than anything else.

Still, here we are. The post is finally written and posted and you’re reading it. The wonders of the modern age. Or, I guess, the post-modern age. Very deconstructive and stuff, posting it so far from when it actually took place. I got a first in that module last year so I know what I’m talking about (I don’t).

I’m also writing this in a bar-thing in Durham and the boys next to me are making sweeping declarations about deontology and Nietzsche and I want to butt in and tell them they’re wrong and to shut up but I’m above that (I’m not).

In fact, that face there (<-) is a very accurate representation of my face right now, cup of tea and all.

They’re now talking about love and honesty.

THE SKY GARDEN

Back to what we’re actually here for, other than my snide comments on pop-philosophers chain smoking in their beanies next to me.

Ollie and I have been talking about going to the Sky Garden forever. Literally since it opened. We’ve just never been bothered to actually get up and book our slot. Well, I got bored of just saying ‘yeah we really need to go’ and did it. I booked a 10:15 slot, woke Oliver up after a night of moderate drinking, and off we went. It’s only a 15 minute walk from the flat so it’s not like it was that much of a struggle. It’s also free so really we had no reason to complain.

A little while later, and a blueberry muffin down, we were wandering the Sky Garden happy as two clams. My hair was still wet after a super hurried shower, and even the wind on the balcony couldn’t dry it enough for my liking. But it didn’t matter because we were happy and you can’t really tell in the photos.

But what is the truth? When is it okay to lie? I don’t care, boys. #DurhamLyf

If you have a spare hour or so, and manage to book before it fills up, then I can’t recommend the Sky Garden enough. The views are sensational, it’s fun to explore The City a little more, and the muffins really are something special.

It really is one of those places that you just have to go at one time. If it’s not your thing then that’s fine, you don’t have to go again. If you love it as much as we did then you can go over and over again. London have truly smashed it with this one. x
