Heading North For The Winter
Well, I’m back in the North East now. London has been left long behind for a little while and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of Durham life. At the risk of sounding a little cliché about everything, it’s a little cold up here. Not massively cold, but colder than at home.

Which is actually no big deal for me really because I much prefer it a little colder anyway. I’m definitely more of a jumper and coat gal than anything else and there’s nothing worse than London humidity and hot rain showers. Gross.

You may remember my little post a while ago about finding your everyday festival style? Well, I’ve teamed up with Lighthouse again to share my winter must-have coat, affectionately known as Florence*.

Florence is a gem of a coat, to be honest. Casual and cosy, with a super soft lining and double zip (brilliant for those of you with ~*~thick~*~ thighs like mine), Florence is going to be my new best friend throughout the Durham winter (and spring, and summer, and autumn and winter again).

Don’t get me wrong, Durham is great and, as I say, I love the cold, but sometimes it’s just nice to walk around the city in a snuggly coat on your way to and from lectures/coffee with friends.

Finding a coat that you’re happy with and feel comfortable in can be a real struggle. If you have body confidence issues, like me, you’ll understand the need to find a coat that covers you in all the right places and makes you feel good as you walk around town. Lighthouse have smashed it with this one. It cuts me in the right place, fits like a glove, and is casual enough for day-to-day wear. Don’t get me wrong, I love my fancy camel coat, but there’s nothing like slinging something on that you know is comfy, casual, and 100% waterproof. Like, so waterproof. Like, tested in a London downpour and living the dream.

I can’t wait to throw it on and head into town for school, backpack slung over my back, ready to look like I’ve made zero effort with my appearance whereas actually I very carefully picked my outfit to make it look like that. It’s that kind of coat, and I love it! x

Finding a warm, comfy coat that looks nice, has a hood, pockets, and is practical can be such a pain. It’s definitely got colder up here in Scotland the last week too and I love it. Time to break out all the hot chocolates, spiced coffees, and blankets.

  • I can definitely see myself wearing that coat, especially back home in Manchester (also a Northern expat living in London at the moment). I’m heading home in two weeks and I’m excited to feel the crisp air, it’s just so much fresher up North.

  • I honestly don’t have a single coat that fits me at the moment and it’s not okay. This is SUCH a pretty one and looks like exactly what I want for those chilly Autumn mornings (without being too hot for those toasty Autumn afternoons)

  • I’ve seen this style coat on a few people recently and I love it, I really need to invest in one as my current coat is too short to cover the upper thighs when the rain is really pelting! I love the look of the Lighthouse brand! Alice xxx

  • Haha, this post reminded me of my cousin who just recently moved up to Edinburgh for uni. She’s now complaining that it’s colder than she expected and she has had to buy proper Winter boots and a coat etc. I’m not sure what she was expecting, though, moving up to Edinburgh?! Gorgeous coat 🙂 x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
