Home For Christmas

Home For Christmas

Well, Michaelmas term is officially over and I am officially the tiredest person in the entire world. Congratulations me. No time to rest though, have a few essays to do this holiday, as well as a few other bits and bobs that will take up far more time than they should. Hooray for final year!

I’ve been rubbish at blogging this term. Like actually really awful. I’ve been struggling to get back into a work/blog/social life routine like the one I had in second year. I had so much time to do anything I wanted in my third year, and now I’m back to doing actual work and stuff I’m kinda falling behind. I’ll get it sorted for next term, don’t worry.

Truth is, along with the lack of time, I’ve had a lack of ideas. Let’s just say that Durham isn’t Paris. I’ve been too busy with school to think about beauty or makeup, or to go anywhere exciting. I don’t imagine you want a photo diary of my trip down to the lecture halls? Maybe the library?

I’ve just been so uninspired.

I mean, most days I don’t even make it out of college. How am I meant to get those world class insta shots of the Christmas Starbucks cups if I’m a good 20 mins from a Starbucks? Nightmare.

We all go through quiet patches when it comes to our blogs. It’s chill. It’ll pick up again soon. I just need to have a little think about the kinds of things I actually want to write about.

You guys don’t know a lot about me this term, do you? Here’s a thing I want to write about. I want to only write about this. It’s my dissertation and the topic of most of my essays this year, no matter which module it’s for: how changes in medical and scientific thought led to the rise and fall of the European witch-craze. Don’t worry, I’m not going to bore you by talking about it on here. I’m not going to bore you because it’s amazing and you’ll love hearing about it. I’m kidding. I won’t mention it, don’t worry.

I’m really excited to be going home for Christmas. Really excited. This term has gone on forever and ever and I’m glad it’s over. It was the most fun I’ve had in forever, though. So that’s pretty sweet. Such a change from living alone in France, and such a change from first and second year. I can’t explain it. It’s just nice.

I don’t really like writing these catch-up posts very much. I like to know what I am going to talk about because I talk about it. This is a lot more rambling and I don’t think people like reading them as much. They don’t offer anything other than to me, giving me an excuse to just get something out there, published.

I have a load of fun things planned for the holiday. Christmas at home, with my parents and sister, Paris for a few days, a load of blogging stuff to get done, an essay (lol), some diss stuff (lol), a few fun days out with Oliver, etc. I’m excited, but tired, thinking about it.

I suppose I better get started on that ‘NY Resolutions’ post…

  • I understand you girl. University can get really crazy sometimes and makes you feel uninspired to do anything else other than work. I hope you have a good rest during your holiday 🙂 Also to be honest, I wouldn’t mind hearing more about your dissertation/essay topic. I’m intrigued to find out what students from other degrees have to do for their coursework.

  • Posts that are basically just someone’s ramblings are actually my favourite kind! And your dissertation topic sounds super interesting so please do feel free to go into more detail! 🙂 I’d definitely read it. Hope you get a bit of down-time this holiday <3

I know what you mean about this term dragging but it’s also gone so quickly?! I hope you have an amazing break – sounds like you need it xx

  • I have to be honest, your dissertation topic sounds really interesting! A couple of years ago the British Museum had an exhibition on witchcraft and the development up until the Enlightenment – I loved it!
In the meantime don’t worry too much about forcing blog content – it’ll come when it comes 🙂 take time to recharge over Christmas and sure you’ll bounce back in the New Year! xx

  • I for one actually think your diss sounds pretty interesting! Plus anyone that doesn;t doesnt have to read it! 😉 Alice xx
