But that’s just me. What do you do?
Basically, I spend each second of every day stressed off my feet, trying to piece together something on which I have very little information. Put that on my LinkedIn as a special skill. Endorse me for it.
Because of all the things I’ve been struggling to get done in 24 hours, a few things have taken a little bit of a back seat. One of those is my makeup, and how long it takes me to get up and out the door in the morning.
I’m quite ‘lucky’ that I tend to get a small lie in every morning but only because I stop replying to emails at about midnight or later the night before. When I get up and have somewhere to go, other than the desk at the other side of my room, I can do it fast.
Glossier have had a huge hand in it, of course. Their focus on keeping makeup fresh and minimal has been a bit of an inspiration to me. I’m in love with their cloud paint and skin tint, and I’m really warming to the haloscope highlighter (I legit have to warm it up between my legs to use it as my room is so cold that it’s rock hard in the morning).
However, it’s all well an good going super sheer and minimal with your makeup if you have nothing to hide. With all this stress I’ve been having to work really hard on my skincare regime. When one door closes, another opens, right?
I’ve come to learn that the most important step for applying flawless minimal makeup is done the night before when you cleanse away the day. I’ve slowly developed a skincare routine that works for me, and keeps my skin more or less blemish free 24/7. I still have big red patches that really need to be dealt with properly, as well as a big dry patch between my eyebrows, but they’re all things that can be worked around. The main thing is that I’ve finally found a way to keep my skin smooth and perfect for applying a nice primer and BB.
Because, really, the whole point of minimal makeup is to enhance what you already have going for you. I love an orange blush because it enhances my skin tone and makes it glow, and a pop of highlighter gives my face that gorgeous glow that we’re all after.
I’ll be honest, as fun as a full face of makeup is, for the normal day of meetings and lectures I think I’ll just stick to a slick of mascara and a pop of shimmer. x
