A lot of my favourite bloggy people have quit their jobs, or gone part time, lately. They’ve done that to give their all to the internet. I’m thrilled for them. Honestly, I’m so over the moon that they’ve worked so hard for themselves (and by hard I mean HARD) and they’re in a position to say ‘screw you’ to the man and hit freelance blog life head on. Ultimately, if I can one day be as badass as them, I’d jump at it.
Katy wrote a banging post about her switch to full time blog life here.
I’d love to go full-time. Honestly, I can’t think of a job I want to do more (don’t tell the people reading my grad job applications that).
At the moment, however, it’s just not possible. In fact, I can’t even begin to think about it.
For now, blogging isn’t my number one priority. It’s very high on my list, and definitely top three, but it’s not number one. I’ve got things to do and stuff to get done, and they take up more attention than I’d like.
Here are a few of the things that, for now, come above my blog on my big ol’ list of to-dos:
- My Masters and all the work associated with that
- Other uni stuff that takes priority at the moment
- Job applications (about a million a day)
- Seeing Oliver whenever we can squeeze in a trip
- Time with friends while we have time between everything else
- My health, mentally and physically
Blogging comes somewhere in that pile of stuff. Sometimes it’s at the top, if I’ve just handed in a load of work and have some free time, and sometimes it’s at the very bottom.
For the next few months my MA takes priority, no exceptions.
The moment my free time starts building back up again I’ll be back with my A game, all the time. But for now it’s going to be bits and pieces, the best I can. Except busy blog weeks and expect quiet blog weeks.
At some point I’d like to make my side hustle my full-time hustle, but for now it’s just not right for me. x
